If you are new to ordering custom patches , you may not be
familiar with patch lingo. There are many terms that are associated with custom
emblems, these patch terms are very important to know when ordering your
patches. They are very important to learn because they effect the outcome of
what your embroidered patch will look like.
I would like to go over these terms and their meanings so you are
well informed and prepared to order your embroidered emblems.
Mock-Up Sample- a digital sample of what your embroidered
patch will look like.
Sewn-Out Sample- a
sewn-out sample of what your embroidered patch will look like.
Twill Fabric-
is a fabric
Patch Size- add the height and the width of your design
then divide the total by 2. The result is the size of your patch design.
Merrowed Border- A 1/8″ border that overclocks the emblem edge, preventing fraying
and gives your patch a clean finished look.
Hot Knife- For patches with complex shapes or detailed
borders.
Satin Stitch - 1/6″ satin stitch edge without the
overlocking the emblem’s edge.
Smooth Cut- No stitching on the patch edge
Frayed Edges -We
put the patches through a special process that frays the edges of the patch.
50% Embroidery Coverage - 50% or less of the patch surface area that will be covered in
embroidery.
75% Embroidery Coverage- 75% or less of the custom patch
surface area that will be covered in embroidery.
100% Embroidery Coverage - 100% of the custom insignia’s
patch surface area will be covered.
CAD Design- CAD stands for computer- aided design. CAD
design gives instructions to our in house digitizers so they can create your
custom embroidered emblem.
Embroidered Patch- is a piece of artwork created thru an
embroidery machine using materials such as cotton twill and different color
threads. It conveys a theme, event or
logo that commemorates the users’ message.
PMS Color-
PMS stands for Pantone Matching System.
PVC Patch- PVC
stands for Polyvinyl Chloride
Velcro Hook or Loop backing - Velcro loop side which can
either be sewn on or iron-on
Chenille patch- is a fabric made with fringed thread used
as the weft in combination with wool or cotton.
